  • TRY: 365,000 ₺

Casting parts are not generally categorized as finished products and are used in the fabrication of other products; based on composition, they fall into copper parts (non-alloy), brass parts, and alloy parts (excluding brass). Alloy and brass parts constitute the largest market share. Copper parts are used in industrial products such as parts for welding machines, steel casting molds, and artisanal handicrafts, while brass parts have wider applications including tools and equipment (locks and keys, zippers, door handles, rims and trims, bolts and nuts, etc.), faucets and valves for water and gas, home lighting and decorative products, auto parts, etc.

Product Description

With a GDP of $415 billion in 2019, Iran was the third largest economy in the region that year. While the country’s economy was steadily growing after the drop in 2012 due to the sanctions, it dipped once again in 2019 thanks to the return of the sanctions. Due to its rich copper reserves, the country is the largest copper producer in the region; in 2019, the country was ranked the sixth largest in terms of copper reserves and the fifteenth largest copper producer in the world. But considering the capacity being built in the country, the rank in copper production can improve.

Market drivers of Iran’s copper casting parts

Faucets and valves for water and gas in construction and industry are some of the major consumers of copper casting parts. Along with the economic growth over the recent years, the consumption of these products has increased and they have gained good markets in both construction and industry. Given the forecasts of growing population and increasing construction, the consumption of faucets in construction will increase; however, with relative development in infrastructure and forecasts of decline in the activities of industrial operations, demand for industrial faucets and valves is expected to remain flat or weaken.

Auto parts manufacturing is one of the most important consumers of copper cast parts. With the growing population and the increasing demand for cars from new and future households, the auto industry is a good opportunity for ramping up output. This will boost demand for copper casting parts.

Currently, due to the high copper prices, copper casting parts in some applications have been replaced with other metals such as aluminum and zamak. With forecasts of higher copper prices in the future, the trend is expected to continue.

Overview of Iran’s copper casting parts market

Casting parts in general, and copper casting parts more specifically, are not traded on global markets before further processing; thus, markets for these products are isolated. On this account, these products are more heavily dependent on domestic demand than other downstream and upstream copper products as there is no trade for these intermediate products because they are not traded before further processing. Construction (in tools and equipment, faucets and valves) and automotive (in auto parts) significantly affect demand for copper and alloy casting parts. Studies indicate that major consumer industries such as construction and automotive were in serious decline between 2012 and 2015. Although auto output increased afterwards, activities in the sector were mostly restricted to assembling imported products and the copper casting parts market was not affected. As a result, the country’s copper casting parts market continued to shrink. With the critical economic conditions expected to continue over the coming years, the downtrend in the consumption and output of casting parts is forecast to continue due to lower liquidity in the market and weakening demand.

Breakdown of Iran’s copper casting parts market

Iran’s copper casting parts market is analyzed based on composition and application. In terms of composition, the products fall into three categories: copper parts (non-alloy), brass parts, and alloy parts (excluding brass); brass parts constitute the largest part of output and consumption. Copper casting parts are also analyzed according to applications; construction, industrial equipment, and automotive are some of the largest consumer industries.
